DPT, CMPT
I found climbing more than 20 years ago and I was immediately hooked. I moved to improve my climbing access, worked seasonally to be able to travel to climb, then worked less, climbed more, and abandoned most day-to-day comforts in favor of days on the rock. I’ve dealt with injuries, battled to improve, and grew frustrated by what felt like an inevitable plateau.
My story was pretty common, but quality information on rehabilitation and injury prevention was sparse and hard to find. Becoming a physical therapist was a natural next step to grow my skill set to better serve our climbing community and get to geek out on human movement for a living.
Inspired by specializations in rehab in other sports, in 2013 I embarked on a mission to become a specialist in climbing rehab and started what I later dubbed The Climbing Lab in Bozeman, MT. In the years that followed, through thousands of visits working with all levels of climbers, refined systems of assessment revealed common patterns that were anchors for both performance and injury prevention.
Outside of climbing, I’m an avid telemark and backcountry skier. I love yoga, cooking, and mountain adventures with my amazing wife, two daughters, and our dogs. We love travel and experiences abroad, and we love returning home to our sleepy Montana mountain town, Red Lodge.
15 years since my PT adventure began and I’m as psyched as ever about all things climbing, training, biomechanics, and rehab.
