remote physical therapy & training Services

Working together goes beyond patching up an injury and sending you off. It’s about connection and trust. It’s about exploration, learning about your body and it’s response and needs as it relates to climbing. It’s delving deeper while keeping it real. It’s about geekery and stoke.

It’s about your unique path to sending again and moving beyond.

Remote Physical Therapy Injury Assessment

Walk away understanding your injury with in depth education on the nature of the issue and the key modifications necessary to your current climbing and training. You’ll receive detailed initial programming summarized in videos with specific parameters easily accessible on a free App. Key questions will be addressed, no stone left unturned, and walk away with the comfort of knowing I’m in your corner supporting you through this process.

Time: 90 minutes
Cost: $200

Remote follow up sessions

Follow-up sessions are an opportunity for a deeper dive as I get to know you and your body’s response to the program. We use these sessions in a variety of ways to progress your rehab, continue to assess your climbing mechanics and kinetic chain, and to continue to tailor your climbing and training around your symptoms and response to the program. You will always walk away from your initial assessment with a clear forecast of the optimal frequency for sessions. This will further be tailored session to session to optimize your rehab while respecting your circumstances and budget.

Time: Up to 70 minutes
Cost: $150

How is any of this possible without a hands-on assessment?

It starts with taking a thorough history.

Studies consistently indicate that most of the key information directing sound diagnosis is born from this part of the assessment. From here, looking for key biomechanical changes through observation of movement will support or refute the working hypothesis from your history. This builds toward walking you through performing tissue stress tests to hone in on the tissue of issue.

Climbing Movement Analysis

Want to get seasoned eyes on your movement from the perspective of both performance and/or injury prevention? Then this is your jam.

  • Get a look at your climbing through the lens of your personal history and goals

  • Uncover key aspects of both strength and vulnerability in the way you move

  • Walk away with programming including key drills, mobility work, and/or strengthening to progress your skills on the wall

  • While these sessions are quite fluid and each unfold in their own unique way, generally we’ll:

    • Discuss your climbing history and goals

    • Video several types of movement at varying angles to glean key information

    • Review video footage together, touching on both strengths and weaknesses

    • Work on drills to improve compensations and asymmetries in your movement

    • Prescribe mobility work and/or strength exercises to progress your climbing and durability

From time to time over a 50+ year career as both a fairly high level athlete and as a coach of hundreds of athletes from beginners to Olympians I have used the services of dozens of physical therapists for either myself or an athlete.

Matt is an exceptionally talented PT. He has an uncanny perception of movement and impaired function that places him in a rarified class of practitioners of his art.

This skill allowed him to diagnose and correct a movement issue that had been plaguing me with shoulder pain for years. And he did this in less than one minute of watching me climb!

In terms of numbers: I’ve had my best climbing season to date, sending 21 routes 13a or harder, most notably Omaha Beach in two weeks of effort. Although the numbers look good on paper, I’m most excited that I spent 1-3 sessions on the vast majority of these routes.
